About New In Linux
New In Linux is an independent publication launched in April 2026 by Jordan Gloor. Previously, he was an editor at How-To Geek, and he wrote at at various other outlets before that.
The New In Linux blog covers breaking news about the GNU/Linux operating system and other open source software. We see these topic as one of the most important for our time, given how genuinely free software — along with other forms of human freedom — seem to be disappearing. FOSS is also just fun, as computers should be.
Why this site exists
New In Linux takes a unique approach to FLOSS journalism that responds to the present world.
The internet is in a post-reality state. Slop and spam oozing from every pore of the internet has muffled the genuine voices of humans with experiences and opinions. Trustworthy sources are increasingly scarce. Meanwhile software developers deliver impenetrable changelogs riddled with jargon, and manufacturers pollute their press releases with whatever buzzword their shareholders think will buy them a new boat.
Regular people are lost trying to understand what's happening in tech, and legacy online media continues to publish in formats created for print newspapers.
- This is bad for the tech world, and for the free flow of reliable information in general.
New In Linux cuts through the noise with reporting from real humans with actual brains that come with unapologetically biased perspectives. We report on the cutting edge of software and other consumer technology, giving normal people a quick understanding of what's going on with the technology they use. We put facts first while making it crystal-clear what part of our writing is our opinion.
